The roof of a newly built sports hall in the Czech Republic has collapsed in the middle of a game, putting more than 50 lives at risk.

There were approximately 80 spectators and hockey players in the building when the roof began to collapse on Saturday, but all of them managed to escape the building safely, Fox Sports reports.

Video of the event shared to YouTube shows a stampede of people fleeing for the exit as the roof begins to cave in.

The hall, in the city of Ceska Trebova, only opened this month.

In a statement on Facebook, the governor of the Czech Republic’s Pardubice region, Martin Netolicky, said the people behind the “sloppy” building work “must be punished”.

He said he will be personally overseeing the investigation into the incident and promised a “speedy solution”.
