Guard breaks his leg as African migrants rush checkpoint

A Spanish border guard broke his leg in a desperate attempt to stop migrants storming a checkpoint in North Africa.

The incident in the Spanish territory of Ceuta, which borders Morocco, on Monday involved 300 African migrants rushing a passport control area, reports Reuters.

Video shows a handful of border guards attempting to stop the migrants sprinting through the border.

Footage shows how one guard attempted to trip some of the mob with his right foot but was thrown to the floor with a fractured leg.

Border officials said 187 migrants managed to get into Ceuta after the border post was stormed.

In a separate incident in Ceuta on Tuesday, authorities detained 19 North African migrants hiding in fairground trucks after a fair, reports BBC.

Officials using thermal imaging sensors and sniffer dogs discovered them hiding in bumper cars and a ghost train as they waited to board a ferry for mainland Spain.
