Sky News refuses to show Charlie Hebdo cover, cuts interview with former writer

A former writer for the satirical publication Charlie Hebdo has caught Sky News UK off guard by unexpectedly holding up the latest edition of the magazine in front of the camera.

The Charlie Hebdo issue features an image of the prophet Mohammed and comes a week after 12 people – including senior magazine staff – were massacred by Muslim extremists.

Sky News has joined many other networks in choosing not to show the cartoon.

During the interview, writer Caroline Fourest, can be seen rummaging around for the issue while making disparaging remarks about Sky’s decision.

“I’m very sad, very sad, that journalists in the UK do not support us,” she said.

“Journalists in the UK betray what journalism is about.”

Despite some skilful camera work that saw most of the cover obscured, presenter Anushka Asthana hurriedly cut off the interview and apologised to viewers.
