'Scary to see': Moment surfer realises large shark is right behind him
A surf in the swells of Puerto Rico has turned into a day of horror for one surfer, who had a very close encounter with a large shark.
Jorge Benitez captured the entire encounter as he stood on the shores of Middles Beach on the north shore of the island.
In the video, a stingray is seen breaching the water. Suddenly Mr Montes spots the animal and makes a bid to escape, frantically paddling towards land.

Mr Benitez, who was at the beach with a friend, thinks the shark was a hammerhead.
He told 9news.com.au he thinks it was roughly 2.4-3 metres in length.

"It was scary to see, especially having a friend so close in the water," he said.
"I didn't see until I watched the video again because it was following a stingray.
"That's what I was originally filming."
Hammerheads have never been involved in a fatal attack.
However, according to International Shark Attack File, humans have been subjects of 17 documented, unprovoked attacks.
