Seniors at US nursing home get to relive their prom

For some residents of a US nursing home, it’s been almost a century in the making – the chance to go to prom.

Students from TERRA High School in Miami, Florida, have set up a dance on Thursday for about 74 seniors at the Palace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where 101-year-old resident Eleanor Bessin will get a second chance at prom and 86-year-old Sadie Gilbert, who was never invited to hers, will finally get the chance to attend.

Ms Bessin went to prom on a boat in Boston before World War II with a man she planned to marry.

However, he died from cancer shortly after returning from serving in the war. She still carries his picture.

Another resident, Sadie Gilbert, says she was never invited to her high school prom but will finally get the chance to attend.

The high school students are even planning a vote for prom king and queen during Thursday’s prom.
