Second escaped New York convict in stand-off with police: reports

Armed police believe they have cornered fugitive murderer David Sweat near the Canadian border, according to US media reports.

A police source told CNN the escaped prisoner is surrounded by hundreds of heavily armed border officers.

Sweat’s fellow escapee, Richard Matt, was shot dead by a border patrol tactical team earlier today after trying to steal a campervan near Lake Titus in Malone, New York.

Sweat escaped but police have since located and authorities have moved in and surrounded him.

Two police at the scene told CNN they were “right on top of David Sweat.”

However, other officials have denied they know precisely where Sweat is.

Police believe Sweat may commit suicide before being captured, reported The Mail.

Sweat was serving life with no chance of parole when he escaped with Matt from Clinton Correction Facility in Dannemora, New York three weeks ago.

He was convicted for murder after shooting a sheriff’s deputy 15 times before running him over.
