Scuba diver finds himself alone with sharks in the US

A scuba diver who surfaced to find himself without his boat has had a very close encounter with sharks – solo, stranded and capturing it all on his GoPro.

Randy Fales, a 68-year-old scuba diver from Satellite Beach in Florida, was diving last Sunday near Sebastian Inlet in Brevard County when he emerged from the depths to find the boat carrying his two daughters was nowhere to be found – and two large sharks were swimming below.

“I got to the surface and looked around… and there was no boat in sight,” Mr Fales told FOX 35 Orlando. The boat’s marker had broken from the weight below.

After about half an hour, two large sharks circled dangerously close below.

“The longer I was on the surface, the bolder the shark became,” Mr Fales told the news station.

Mr Fales used his whistle to capture attention, and made a makeshift flag from his high-visibility dive bag.

He spent approximately an hour and a half with the two sharks before another boat heard his calls for help.

“I was happy to see that boat,” he said.

The frightening experience hasn’t deterred Mr Fales, who said he would “have no problem doing it again”.
