Saudi woman arrested after sharing photo of herself outside without a hijab

A woman living in Saudi Arabia has been arrested after she posted a photo to Twitter of herself outside without a hijab.
The woman, identified by a number of publications as Malak al-Shehri, posted a photo of her outfit to Twitter. She was standing in a street in the country’s capital, Riyadh, wearing a floral dress, a black coat, ankle boots and no headscarf.
It is illegal for women in Saudi Arabia to leave the house without a headscarf or abaya, a loose fitting garment worn like a dress.
The woman has since been arrested for “violations of general morals”, Riyadh police spokesman Fawaz al-Maiman told AFP.
"Riyadh police stress that the action of this woman violates the laws applied in this country,” Mr Maiman said, urging people to “adhere to the teachings of Islam”.
The photo went viral as some Twitter users praised the woman for her bravery, while others condemned her actions, sent her death threats and called for her imprisonment.
The woman’s Twitter account, @AngelQShe, has been deleted since the photo went viral. Her bio read “A Skeptic #StopEnslavingSaudiWomen”.
