Road worker and lane hopper trade blows in traffic

An enraged highway worker picked the wrong man to square up to after he was cut off by a lane hopper on a busy road in the UK.

The man who works for Highways Agency service provider Carnell was driving on the M5 at Wednesbury, in the West Midlands, last week when a Volkswagen pulled in front of him without indicating and then immediately stopped due to heavy traffic.

The Carnell worker in high-vis pants and jacket also slams on the brakes and gets straight out of his car to confront the VW driver, who steps out of his vehicle.

The fluro-clad worker shoves his fellow driver and within seconds the pair are throwing punches.

In a flurry of fists and flailing limbs both men appear to land a few blows but the fight ends with the instigator on the floor after receiving a firm right hand to the side of the head.

The road worker immediately gets up but doesn't resume hostilities, instead sulking back to his car soundly defeated.

Joe Mather, who captured the fight on his dashcam, said the Volkswagen driver had "repeatedly" swapped lanes without indicating.

"Not long before this he pulled in front of my car in the same manner," he told The Mirror.

"I couldn't hear their argument, I just kept my windows up and wasn't getting involved.

"The bloke in the VW must have annoyed a number of other drivers doing the same and to the end of the video you see him cutting lanes again.

Carnell declined to comment on the situation.
