Reporter breaks down in tears during live cross from Paris memorial site

A BBC reporter has broken down during a live cross from a memorial site of the terror attack in Paris.

Graham Satchell was speaking to the hosts of BBC Breakfast from the Place de la République on Tuesday morning, where thousands have left notes, flowers and candles for the victims of Friday nights terror attack that left 129 people dead and hundreds more injured.

During the cross Satchell, a father-of-three, became overcome by the moment.

"The feeling here in Paris has certainly changed significantly since we arrived on Saturday, when Paris was virtually a ghost town," he said.

"Last night, it was incredibly busy. There were vigils here, there were vigils at the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower was lit up in red, white and blue, which I think is a sign of hope."

Satchell then looked to the ground and said "sorry, I'm so sorry" before trying to compose himself.

"And I'll leave it there," he said.

Presenter Sally Nugent, who was in the studio in London, thanked Satchwell for his words and said the event had been distressing for all involved.

Satchwell later took to Twitter to thank people for their support.

"Thank you so much for all the kind tweets. Humbled by Parisienne response in last few days. It was just a moment – slightly mortified."
