Referee goes down after being hit by rock

A referee in Argentina has escaped injury, but sent a major scare through players and officials, after being hit by a rock that was thrown from the stands.

German Delfino was officiating a Primera Division clash between Atletico Rafaela and Rosario Central when in the 42nd minute he was hit in the chest by a rock.

The projectile appeared to be thrown by the home fans of Atletico Rafaela and saw the referee immediately collapse onto the pitch.

After a few minutes, during which the home fans kept throwing all sorts of objects onto the pitch - including one which was caught by the Rosario keeper - the referee decided to continue with the match.
