Record-breaking glass bridge in China closed due to ‘overwhelming demand’
Public demand has reportedly risen to around ten times the capacity of the bridge (AAP)
The Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon glass bridge in China has closed just 13 days after it was opened to the public.
At 430m long and six metres wide, the bridge has set 10 world records, according to the XinHua News Agency.
The bridge is said to have boosted interest in the Zhangjiajie Park and is now the main attraction at the canyon.
Public demand has reportedly risen to around 10 times the capacity of the bridge – a limit of 8000 visitors per day.
A spokesperson from the canyon’s marketing and sales department told the CNN they had been "overwhelmed by the volume of visitors."
The department denied there was any damage to the bridge.
A statement posted to Chinese microblogging site Weibo claims the closure is due to the "urgency to improve and update" the facility.
News Corp reports that park officials will use the time to improve car parks, booking systems and customer service.
