Rapper 'cuts off penis before suicide bid'

A rapper connected to the Wu Tang Clan has allegedly cut off his own penis and thrown himself off a building in a suicide attempt.

Andre Johnson, who goes by the stage name Christ Bearer, jumped off the second storey balcony of a North Hollywood apartment building overnight, TMZ reports.

The hip hop artist was taken to hospital in a critical condition, where he remains.

Two members of the Wu Tang discovered group Northstar, that Christ Bearer is a member of, said they were in the apartment at the time but did not see him cut himself or leap off the balcony.

The men added that they were not using "any hard drugs that would cause him to do such a thing."

The rappers said they rushed downstairs and saw Christ Bearer lying in a pool of blood and screaming incoherently.

Police are reportedly treating the case as a suicide attempt.

It is unclear if doctors are trying to reattach the allegedly dismembered.
