'Shocked and devastated beyond words': Radio DJ dies live on-air

A community is in mourning after a British radio DJ died live on-air while hosting a morning breakfast show.

A veteran presenter of four decades, Tim Gough, 55, died from a suspected heart attack at his home studio in Lackford, Suffolk just before 8am local time on Monday.

According to the BBC, music abruptly stopped during the show before restarting some minutes later, but Gough did not return to air.

A spokesperson for GenX Radio said the company was "shocked and devastated beyond words" by his sudden passing.

"It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to inform you, our dear friend and breakfast host Tim Gough passed away this morning while presenting his program," the spokesperson said.

"Our love to his family, son, sister, brother and mum.

"Tim was doing what he loved."

Gough spent the majority of his life in Suffolk and began his broadcasting career in 1986.

James Hazell, managing director of GenX Radio, said he was completely heartbroken.

"To know Tim personally, as I did very closely for over 30 years, was to know a warm, caring, fun guy who myself and my family loved dearly," he said.

"We are heartbroken by the news."
