Website Quora hacked, with up to 100m users affected

A popular website has confirmed it has been hacked - with up to 100 million user details stolen.

Quora, which allows people to ask questions on any subject, which are then answered by other users, has confirmed account information including names, email addresses and encrypted passwords were compromised by a ‘malicious third party,’ on Friday.

The site said it is investigating the hack, which has been reported to police.

It said it is notifying users whose data has been compromised, and is cancelling passwords.

It said content posted by users is also affected.

The US-based website was launched in 2010.

Quora said in a statement: “It is our responsibility to make sure things like this don’t happen, and we failed to meet that responsibility.

“We are continuing to work very hard to remedy the situation, and we hope over time to prove that we are worthy of your trust.”

It’s just the latest data breach this week, with the details of 500m Marriott hotel’s guests also stolen in a separate hack.
