Puerto Rico's Miss Universe representative loses title over attitude problems

Puerto Rico's 2016 Miss Universe contestant has been stripped of her crown with officials claiming the model had “attitude problems.”

Kristhielee Caride, who won the title of Miss Puerto Rico Universe 2016 four months ago, was to represent the Caribbean island at Miss Universe 2016.

Yesterday officials informed the 24-year old beauty pageant titleholder of their decision to remove her as Puerto Rico's representative after a comments made during an interview with a local newspaper.

Ms Caride was criticised for being dismissive and telling the paper she did not love cameras.

Desiree Lowry, national director of Miss Universe Puerto Rico, was present during that interview.

"I wanted the earth to swallow me," Lowry said.

"You always have to put your best face forward ... it's a given that we are going to be in front of cameras and that we have to answer all types of questions."

After Ms Caride cancelled several more media opportunities and refused to reschedule, officials had no choice but to retire the titleholder.

It is the first time a contestant from Puerto Rico has had her title removed.

Ms Caride apologised for her antics in Facebook Post saying "beauty queens we are not exempt from having a bad day."
