Pro surfer films gory aftermath of Hawaiian shark attack

A Hawaiian surfer who was chomped on the arm by a shark had his wounds tended to by a friend as a professional surfer filmed the grisly sight.

Federico Jaime was surfing at a beach in Maui last Friday, the day before he was supposed to be going on his honeymoon, when the shark suddenly attacked, Fox News reports.

"It just came out of nowhere," he said. "I saw the shark right in my face. It grabbed my arm- my left arm. It was really violent," Mr Jaime said.

"I could see my arm was pretty much destroyed."

"I hit it with my hands and my legs. I don't know what I did."

The shark took an extra chunk out of Mr Jaime’s leg before his surfing mates pulled him to the shore screaming.

One of the men used their surfboard leash as a tourniquet as professional surfer Matt Meola noticed the commotion and started filming.

“I saw that he was probably going to survive," Meola said.

"I probably wouldn't have filmed if he was dying. But I thought he was going to be OK so I started filming."

The gory footage shows Mr Jaime’s bloodied arm pulsating as the tourniquet is applied.

Meola said Mr Jaime was “pretty excited” to watch the footage when he was recovering later.

Mr Jaime admitted he had watched it "a thousand times."

“It's surreal to watch. I'm really lucky. I'm super positive," he said.
