Prince Harry reveals 'all I want to do is make my mother incredibly proud' in intimate interview

Young royal Prince Harry has spoken about the strong influence of his late mother, Princess Diana, on his life, as well as his charity work and desire for children in an interview with People magazine.

Prince Harry said his mother – who died when he was 12 years old – has had a profound impact on his life.

"All I want to do is make my mother incredibly proud, that's all I've ever wanted to do," he said in the exclusive interview.

Diana's legacy motivated him to do charity work, he said, before leaving Kensington Palace for the Invictus Games in Florida and for a polo event to promote his own charity, Sentebale.

"When she died, there was a gaping hole, not just for us but also for a huge amount of people across the world. If I can try and fill a very small part of that, then job done," he said.

Prince Harry is an ambassador for the Invictus Games, which uses rehabilitative sports to inspire wounded, injured and sick service people.

He has also co-founded the Sentebale charity with Prince Seesio of Lesotho, which is aimed at helping vulnerable children affected by poverty and Lesotho's HIV/AIDS epidemic.

The royal bachelor also spoke about his niece and nephew, Charlotte and George, and how he wants to have children but is in "no rush".

Speaking at a fundraising polo event – the Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup – in Wellington, Florida, Prinen Harry explained the charity’s goal to provide one million hours of support to children and young people with HIV/AIDS in Lesotho.

“ Lesotho has the second highest rate of HIV in the world - HIV remains the number one cause of death amongst adolescents in Africa," he said.

"Sentebale's goal is to provide one million hours of support to children and young people living with HIV and AIDS across the region by 2020.

"That’s an ambitious goal, but the scale of the challenge demands bold action."
