Prince Harry interviews former US president Barack Obama

Britain's Prince Harry has interviewed Barack Obama for a radio program in which the former US president shared his memories of the day he left office and his hopes for the future.

Kensington Palace said the interview was recorded in Toronto in September during the Invictus Games, a sports event for injured military personnel founded by Harry.

The palace said the conversation featured Obama discussing his plans to cultivate the next generation of leadership through the Obama Foundation.

In a video clip on the BBC website showing the pair warming up ahead of the chat, Mr Obama joked about his interview abilities. 

“Do I have to speak faster, because I’m a slow speaker?” he asks.

Harry assured him his normal speaking speed was fine but warned him that if he began “using long pauses between the answers you’re probably going to get, sort of, the face”.

“Let me see the face,” Mr Obama replies, to be faced with a withering stare from the royal.

“Oh okay I don’t want to see that face," Mr Obama quips with a laugh. 

The former president also offers to interview Harry instead, a suggestion quickly shut down by the prince.

The interview was part of Harry's guest editorship of the BBC's Today program.

It will be broadcast on December 27.

The Invictus Games will be held in the US in March next year.
