A pregnant Brazilian woman received an emergency Caesarean after the car she was travelling in was hit by a train.

CCTV of the April 15 accident in Minas Gerais, Brazil shows cars stopped at a rail crossing awaiting an oncoming cargo train to pass.

A 33-year-old driver of a car appears to become impatient with the delay and pulls ahead of the waiting vehicles and makes a race for the other side.

As the motorist crosses the tracks, the train crashes into its side and knocks it into a nearby ditch.

Local media reports the driver refused medical treatment, however three other passengers in the car were injured in the accident, including the 25-year-old pregnant woman.

She was transported to the Santa Casa de Misericordia hospital where doctors performed an emergency Caesarean to save her baby's life.

The other occupants, a 32-year-old woman and a man, 26, were discharged from hospital later that day.

Police are currently reviewing the footage.
