Police ram fleeing London thief with van door

A brazen thief staging a getaway on a bicycle down a London street was stopped when police rammed him with their vehicle door.

Hammersmith and Fulham Council yesterday released dramatic footage of the incident in southwest London which happened on June 4.

It begins showing a man riding the bike along a street when he noticed a Ranger Rover he was passing had its passenger window open.

He seizes the opportunity and after gaining access to the SUV, he takes items from the front and boot of the vehicle, reports getwestlondon.

He quickly rode off with his hands full when suddenly a police van arrived.

Following a brief chase, a police officer inside the vehicle rams the thief with the passenger door and the man and his bike fall to the ground.

The officers promptly arrested him and took him into custody.

Jake Nedd, 31, of no fixed address, admitted to theft from a motor vehicle, going equipped for theft and taking a vehicle without consent, relating to the use of the bicycle, when he fronted Westminster Magistrates’ Court last month.

He was sentenced to 28 weeks in prison.
