Hair-raising near miss as plane forced to land on US highway

A skydiving plane has been filmed just missing motorists on a busy US highway as it skims over the road to make an emergency landing.

The small Skydive East Coast plane was carrying five people, including students from the skydiving school, when it lost power in the skies near Stafford Township in New Jersey, NBC has reported.

The pilot was forced to make an emergency landing on the road.

In footage released by the police, the plane is seen skimming over the busy road, barely missing the motoring vehicles.

It lands just metres behind them, travelling along the road briefly before coming to a halt on the median strip.

A skydiving instructor suffered a minor cut to his arm during the landing.

The Federal Aviation Administriation is investigating the incident.
