Pedestrians in China have rushed to save a cyclist trapped under a truck in the country's east after a sickening accident.

The girl was riding her bike through the streets of Bozhou City, in Anhui Province, last Thursday when she floated into the path of the vehicle.

She and her bike were dragged along underneath the truck for several metres after it knocked her down in what could have easily been a fatal turn of events.

Witnesses rushed to help immediately, banding together to haul the truck off the youngster where she lay.

"I heard a loud noise and came out, then I saw a child was trapped under the pickup, so we hurried to lift the vehicle. Over ten people were there and managed to lift the pickup, then we pulled the child out," said Zhou Huashan, a passerby.

The girl was sent to hospital and found to have suffered injuries on her face and leg, which were not life-threatening.

"If they didn't conduct rescue timely, my child might suffocate or die. So I'm really grateful to them," said Liu Ping, mother of the girl.
