Paris bands together in face of terror and opens doors to people stranded on the street with hashtag #PorteOuverte

The people of Paris are taking to social media to help those unable to reach their homes after the city was hit by several simultaneous terror attacks.

Authorities have declared an official city-wide curfew, encouraging people to remain inside and stay safe.

It is the first city-wide curfew since 1944, when Nazis occupied Paris.

In a bid to help those stranded in the capital with no way to return to their homes, residents have begun tweeting #PorteOuverte (#OpenDoor), offering up their homes to those in need. 

The hashtag has already been tweeted 380,000 times since it started circulating online at around 10am AEDT.

It began trending worldwide within half an hour.

Taxi drivers have also begun turning off their metres and offering to take people wherever they need to go in a gesture of good will, the Telegraph reports.

People across the globe are also showing their support online, tweeting the hashtage #PrayForParis. 

At least 60 people have now been confirmed dead and approximately 100 are still being held hostage at the Bataclan concert hall.
