Great Olympic moments

The 2024 Olympic Games was an incredible show of skill, speed and strength, showcasing the greatest athletes on earth.

But some of the most treasured memories from Paris will be those moments that encapsulated the Olympic spirit and simply made us smile.

Here are a selection of our favourites.

One looked as if he had walked off the set of John Wick.

The other from a bar in Brunswick.

Both enjoyed the honour of being the first great meme of the Games.

Yusuf Dikec

Turkey's Yususf Dikec, pictured here with Savval Ilayda Tarhan after winning the silver medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, is no newcomer, though. He's competed at every Summer Olympics since 2008.

He also seemed to embrace the trend, reposting a video compilation of Turkish-language memes about him to his Instagram page.

Meanwhile, Kim Yeji's cool demeanour made her a social media sensation.

Like Dikec, she too is pretty handy, winning won the silver medal in the 10-metre air pistol event.

Snoop

Quite simply, Snoop was everywhere at these Games. He's carried the Olympic torch, captivated audiences as NBC's prime-time correspondent, swam with Michael Phelps, attended a US women's soccer game with Megan Rapinoe, danced with Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles, and cheered on Caeleb Dressel alongside the swimmer's wife and son.

Oh, and performed at the closing ceremony.

Henrik Christiansen

On Friday, July 26, Norwegian swimmer Henrik Christiansen posted an innocent 46-second video trying foods at the Olympic village.

He had no idea he was about to change the world (or at least the TikTok algorithm), and it all started with a single bite of chocolate muffin.

What was supposed to be a simple clip of him rating the many foods on offer at the Paris 2024 dining hall sparked an obsession that has since spread through the whole Olympic village.

The parents

A salute to all the parents out there, spending years, and tens of thousands of dollars, ferrying kids to school sport, ensuring they have all the equipment they need so that one day, maybe, they may grace the Olympic Games.

But for the likes of Richard Fox, pictured with his daughter Jess, he was rewarded with the chance to memorably commentate on her gold-winning runs.

So let's hear it for the parents everywhere - the unsung heroes of the Games.

For sheer, unbridled joy its hard to beat Mitch Tomlinson and Nick Boserio. The whole of Australia was riding with Arisa Trew as she navigated her third and final run of the women's skateboarding park final - but none more than the expert duo.

They lost it again when Keegan Palmer struck gold, ripping off their shirts to reveal specially-made T-shirts.

Yaqin Zhou

Yaqin Zhou was probably as shocked as anyone to wake a medal in the balance beam after a mistake in her program.

But like all of us she was left wondering why medallists bit their medals, after observing gold medal winner Alice D'Amato of Italy and Bronze medal winner Manila Esposito ...

For the record, athletes are asked to take a bite by photographers as they reckon it makes a great snap.
