The opening ceremony starts with a bang - coloured smoke resembling the French flag blasted over Pont d'Austerlitz.

Her final destination: the Eiffel Tower.
It was later revealed the horsewoman was Floriane Issert, a non-commissioned officer for the National Gendarmerie, who carried the Olympic flag along a long platform after the ceremonial horse ridden along the Seine.
Issert finally hands the flag to an official, who raises it, officially opening the Paris Games.
