Parents continue flight home with baby's body after mid-air tragedy

The parents of a tiny baby who died midway through a long-haul flight continued the trip home with their child's body, despite the plane having touched down in a bid to revive the infant.

Four-month-old Jasmine suddenly took ill on a Cathay Pacific flight from London to Hong Kong earlier this week, slipping into a coma from which she never woke.

Although the plane made an emergency landing Kazakhstan's Almaty airport, the child's father, a 32-year-old French national, and her 36-year-old French-Chinese mother, opted to fly back to Hong Kong with her remains.

According to Apple Daily, both parents were extremely distraught for the remainder of the flight, which would have taken around six hours; one passenger told the website the pair were "crying constantly".

It is suspected that a gastrointestinal problem may have been the cause of Jasmine's death, though that theory is yet to be confirmed.
