Paralysed boy granted simple wish of a new backyard path

A paralysed US boy who was granted a wish for charity has offered a simple and humbling response – a new backyard path so he can spend more time outside with his family.

Three-year-old Kellan Tilton was born with a large tumour in his spine and abdomen, and was diagnosed with neuroblastoma just three days old.

While he was able to beat the cancer, the disease ended up leaving the Maine boy paralysed.

The Make-A-Wish-Foundation offered to fulfil a request of Kellan’s but were surprised when he asked for the new path.

Kellan explained his family spend much of their time playing in the grassed backyard of their home, which makes access difficult for him in his wheelchair.

"I had never heard of a more unique or simple wish," the charity’s marketing and communications director Sonya Purington told TODAY.com.

"He's a boy who just wants to have the independence to play with his family.

“His wish really touched all of our hearts."

The organisation teamed up with a local construction company to build the path on August 10, which was finally completed yesterday.

Kellan’s mother paid tribute to her son’s attitude in life.

“Kellan has endured so much in his short lifetime and yet, he is the happiest and most exuberant of kiddos,” she wrote on Facebook.
