Pakistan batsman headbutts ball onto stumps to complete freak cricket dismissal

Pakistan opener Shan Masood won't forget the first day of their first Test against England in a hurry.

The left-handed batsman produced one of cricket's more unusual wickets when he got himself into a tangle against England quick James Anderson and ended up heading the ball onto his stumps.

Masood appeared to be caught in two minds when Anderson bounced him, but in eventually opting to duck for cover he inadvertently headbutted the ball, which took a deflection off his grill and cannoned into his stumps.

It left Pakistan on the back foot at 1-5 and also drew Anderson level with Wasim Akram as the tenth highest wicket-taker in Test history, with 414 international scalps.

After five years in the wilderness, Shoaib Malik led Pakistan's comeback, hitting a fighting hundred to cap an impressive return to Test cricket.

Malik was unbeaten on 124 for his third Test hundred - and his first against England - to guide Pakistan to 4-286 at close on the opening day at Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
