Bystanders in India have been forced to run for their lives after an entire cliff face came crashing down in a sudden landslide.

Dramatic video filmed by a witness yesterday in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh begins by showing just a few small rocks tumbling down into an ocean.

Onlookers can be heard murmuring in the background, but the calm turns to panic within seconds.

Almost within an instant the rocks become a deluge and an entire 150m section of the cliff face suddenly collapses.

A crowd of people who had been watching from a nearby bridge sprint to safety, as does the cameraman.

Incredibly no one was injured during the landslide.

“Huge boulders suddenly started rolling down and within minutes the entire hill-lock came down sliding but fortunately no vehicle was crossing the road at that point of time and as such there was no loss of human life,” state Public Works Department officials told the Indian Express news website.

It is not yet known what caused the landslide as there has been no heavy rain or building activity in the area recently.
