A Lebanese woman who was killed in the Istanbul nightclub attack on New Year's Day reportedly predicted her own death in an eerie Facebook post before the shooting.

Rita Chami was one of 39 people killed when a gunman opened fire in the high-profile nightclub full of people celebrating New Years Eve in Istanbul, Turkey.

The 26-year-old, who just lost her mother to cancer, posted to Facebook before travelling to Turkey saying: “Hopefully we will have fun (in Turkey), worst case scenario is that I will die in a blast and follow my mum," Lebanese news website Alarabiya.net reported.

The post has since been deleted and her Facebook profile has been converted into a memorial page where people are leaving their condolences to Ms Chami and her family.

Lebanese newsite IMLebanon is also reporting that Ms Chami was a student at the American University of Science and Technology.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade today updated its travel advice for Australians travelling to Turkey.

"Avoid the area, exercise heightened caution and remain vigilant to your personal safety and surroundings," the Smart Traveller website says.

It advises people to reconsider the need to travel to Ankara and Istanbul.

DFAT has not received any reports of Australians being caught up in the attack.

The Islamic State terror group has since claimed responsibility for the massacre.
