OJ Simpson media circus returns with fallen star to face parole board

Tomorrow at 3am AEST, America's most famous prisoner will state his case to be set free from jail.

OJ Simpson has spent the last nine years behind the walls of the isolated Lovelock prison in Nevada. 

The 70-year-old was sentenced to a maximum of 33 years after a botched kidnapping and armed robbery attempt in a Las Vegas hotel when Simpson was trying to get back sports memorabilia he claims was his.

Today in the hot, dry and dusty carpark of Lovelock prison the television cameras, satellite trucks and hoards of media are back, in scenes reminiscent of the 1995 "Trial of the Century".

Hundreds of millions of people tuned in more than 20 years ago as the fallen football hero was acquitted of the stabbing murders of his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.

Tomorrow, history repeats itself as the Nevada Parole Board meets to decide if Simpson will be released.

The hearing once again will be screened live on televisions - but now also phones, tablets and computers - across the US.

He has served his minimum sentence and the parole commissioners will be looking to see if Simpson meets the 11 criteria for release.

They include behaviour on the inside, plans for the future and relevant personal or criminal history.

Simpson will have the chance to address the board himself.

If the decision goes his way, Simpson will walk free on October 1.

He says he wants to live a quiet life.

If this week's media set up is anything to go by, he might be pushing his luck.
