Obama shows characteristic grace under pressure during awkward turn on the dancefloor

Barack Obama is a famously smooth customer who has charmed the world by appearing in viral videos, breaking into song, and dropping the mic at the close of his valedictory state of the union address.

So it should come as no surprise that the president also knows how to cut a rug – though the US president didn't look entirely at ease as he performed the tango with a professional dancer at a state dinner in Argentina.

Whether it was the dimly-lit room, the inherent steaminess of the tango itself, or the fact that his wife was dancing with a lithe young blood of her own just a few metres away, it seemed the dance couldn't end quick enough for most powerful man on the planet.

Nonetheless, it's a testament to the leader of the free world's legendary charisma that he managed to maintain his grace despite the pressure.

The Obamas were in Buenos Aires to dine with President Mauricio Macri , in the same week the president made his historic trip to Cuba.
