Nilo the donkey's petting zoo escape foiled by unexpected manhole

A wayward donkey in Switzerland had to be rescued from a manhole in a playground by a team of firefighters.

The 13-year-old donkey, named Nilo, became stuck after escaping from the nearby petting zoo.

Passerby Bruno Schnedier contacted police after he spotted the agitated donkey with its head and front feet sticking out of the manhole on the weekend in Pratteln.

The donkey’s hind legs were stuck in the piping below.

Police told The Local newspaper the donkey suffered “flesh wounds” but was mostly unharmed.
