Two double-decker tour buses have collided in New York, injuring at least 14 people and sending scores more diving for safety.

The New York Times reported one bus crashed into a crowded plaza in Times Square, before being hit by another bus.

Fire officials said three people suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The accident at the famous intersection, with its dizzying skyscrapers, theatres and flashy billboards, took place a little after 3 pm (1900 GMT) at West 47th Street and Seventh Avenue.

Reports have said that tourists were showered with glass from the shattered windscreen of one of the buses.

The spot, annual famous for its New Years Eve bash, is a major tourist draw.
