Nespresso is suing an Israeli company for an advertisement using an actor who looks like George Clooney, the actor who has famously been the face of the coffee giant since 2006.

Espresso Club, the competitor, parodied the 54-year-old multi-millionaire actor in their ad which Nespresso claims seeks to “mislead” viewers.

The Clooney-lookalike leaves what looks like a Nespresso and encounters an “average” young man, who says, “Stop talking to yourself, they’re towing your car”.

As not-Clooney looks at the vehicle being taken away by a tow-truck, the man gently lets him know it wouldn’t have happened if he’d been at home, brewing a fresh cup from his Espresso Club machine.

Nespresso is demanding $50,000 in damages, reported The Associated Press.

Espresso Club have defended the ad on the basis of it being “tongue-in-cheek”, and said it was addressed to coffee drinkers looking for an “informal” experience.
