Mother moose fights wolves to protect calf

A mother moose has been filmed desperately trying to save her calf from being eaten alive by hungry wolves.

In the video, posted on Facebook earlier this week by the Swedish Hunters’ Association Jägarnas Riksförbund, the moose sees the first wolf come charging in for the kill and immediately steps in front of her calf.

But the wolf manages to penetrate the mother’s defences and pounces on the calf from behind, knocking it down.

From there the battle continues, and another wolf joins the fray.

Now outnumbered the moose bravely fights on, before the pack moves out of view of the fixed trail camera.

It is not clear if the mother moose and calf survived.
