A Malaysian mum was forced kick her toddler to the ground after the little girl was seconds away from being crushed the doors of an elevator.

CCTV taken earlier this week showed a small girl standing alone next to an elevator in the Sunny Point complex in Batu Uban when the doors opened.

The child wandered into the opening doors – which have no safety sensors – and stood between them while waiting for her mum.

When the doors started to close the mother's maternal instincts kicked in as she dived towards her daughter and kicked her out of the way.

He Mo Adib, a guard inside the building said the mother's lightning fast reflexes likely saved the young child's life, Kenh14 reports.

"The elevator does not have sensors. Only a button inside to keep the door open. She was really… good," he said.

"The mother is also very smart and wise when dealing with such situations."
