Moment burglary suspect recognises judge as old classmate

It took barely a second for this crim to go from joy to despair during an emotional reunion in court in the US.

Arthur Booth, 49, from Hialeah, Florida, was arrested this week after leading police on a high speed chase and robbing a home.

On Thursday, he appeared before Judge Mindy Glazer, who recognising him from their days at Nautilus Middle School, asked if he had gone there.

"Oh my goodness, oh my goodness," Booth said, his face plastered with a broad smile.

But his excitement quickly faded away as she continued: "I'm sorry to see you there, I always wondered what happened to you sir.

"This was the nicest kid in middle school, he was the best kid in middle school," she said, as he covered his head and began bawling.

"I used to play football with him, all the kids, and look what has happened."

Instead of criticising Booth, Judge Glazer showers him with words of encouragement.

"I am so sorry to see you there. Mr Booth, I hope you are able to change your ways, good luck to you," she said.

"What's sad is how old we've become. Good luck to you sir, I hope you are able to come out of this okay and just lead a lawful life."

Booth was spotted driving a gold Honda Accord identified at the scene of a home burglary on Monday, according to an arrest report.

When approached by an officer, he sped off and was involved in three accidents before fleeing on foot.

He was apprehended a short time later and charged with burglary, grand theft, fleeing, and resisting arrest.

Booth's bond was set at US$43,000.
