Modern Family star Sarah Hyland claims ex-boyfriend ‘choked, threatened’ her

Modern Family star Sarah Hyland has filed a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, Disney Channel star Matt Prokop.

The 23-year-old claims he choked, pushed and threatened to kill her during the course of their five-year relationship, TMZ reported.

Co-star Julie Bowen reportedly witnessed the abuse before the couple split in August.

Hyland alleges in court documents obtained by TMZ that her ex-boyfriend pinned her to a car during an argument in May, yelling profanities and choking her.

"His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak," she said in the documents.

"I was scared and in fear for my life."

When Hyland decided that it was time to end the relationship she reportedly confided in her TV mum, asking her to come to her house to help "peacefully end the relationship".

TMZ reported that she purchased a plane ticket for Prokop to go back to his hometown, but after arriving at Hyland’s residence he started screaming when he saw Bowen.

In court documents, she alleges Prokop threatened to set one of her houses on fire.

"[He] relentlessly bombarded me with vile, threating and emotionally disturbing texts and voice mails including his own suicide threats," Hyland said.

A judge in LA granted Hyland a temporary domestic violence order which requires her ex-boyfriend to stay at least 100 yards away from her and her dog Barkley.
