Group of strangers drive lost dog 3000km home

A family’s precious coonhound was thought to be gone forever after being missing for almost a year.

But Jake has been found wandering the streets of a city in the US more than 3000 kilometres away from his Arizona home.

He was scanned for a microchip and a call was made to Jake’s owners.

"We have a seven-year-old coonhound here who is registered to you, are you missing your dog?" Renae Metz from A Darrah Bull Bully Rescue in Pennsylvania asked the owners and told azfamily.com.

"We are just really baffled by it. We thought maybe a truck driver possibly found Jake in the middle of the night and didn't know what to do with him and brought him home, but we don't know that that's a fact."

While it's a mystery how the pooch ended up in Pennsylvania, it was a group of 20 strangers who helped him get home with his owners unable to pick him up.

Volunteers drove the seven-year-old dog as far as they possibly could, before handing him over to the next person.

“I drove Jake 120 miles,” one volunteer said in a video posted by A Darrah Bull Bully Rescue to Facebook.

Ms Metz told the site: "We had 20 different drivers, three overnights and a lot of stops for Jake.”

There was plenty of excitement when Jake finally made it home to Arizona.
