Turkish PM addresses supporters via hologram

Turkey's prime minister knows how to make a big impression.

Unable to appear at a political party meeting in person Recep Tayyip Erdogan instead graced the event as a giant Star Wars-style hologram.

He was beamed into the meeting by Turkish special effects company Polyvision, which recorded him in front of a green screen.

The spectacle was the perfect distraction from the political turmoil plaguing the prime minister, who is enveloped in a vast corruption scandal that has led to the resignation of multiple high-level officials.

Ergodan's booming, shimmering hologram urged members of the ruling Justice and Development Party to stand firm ahead of elections on March 30.

The stunt is likely to have been a pricey one: Indian politician Nerendra Modi is believed to have spent millions of dollars when he used holograms to simultaneously address supporters across the country in 2012.

That same year, holograms were famously used to "resurrect" murdered rapper Tupac Shakur for a performance at music festival Coachella.
