Nine-year-old Saudi girl filmed firing AK-47 nearly hits person with camera

A short video of a young Saudi Arabian girl firing an assault rifle into the air and nearly hitting the person filming has brought an online backlash against the parents who some say should be jailed.

A nine-year-old girl holds the AK-47 — which is nearly as long as she is tall — and fires several rounds into the air in the four-second clip.

The girl shouts that she is "Nasser's daughter" before firing the weapon which kicks back, sending the barrel wavering toward the person with the camera.

It is the second such clip to arise on Saudi social media networks in recent days with another young girl being filmed firing a Kalashnikov in support of the Saudi Arabian war on neighbouring Yemen titled Operation Decisive Storm, Gulf News reports.

Bloggers across the country lambasted the family for their dangerous grab for fame with some calling for the parents to be thrown in jail.

"This is outrageous and I wonder what is happening," wrote a blogger named Humble.

"Such young children cannot handle guns and are a real threat to themselves and to the people around them. Parents should simply be put in jail."

Another named Arab said: "One slight mistake and Nasser's family will go through a tragedy." "The father should be locked away until he comes to his senses."

A blogger named For the Wise said the family should know that guns are not toys and certainly not for showing off.

"Guns are for wars and not to be used to show off and to brag," he said.

"These people who boast about their gun prowess will be the last to show up when there is a real armed conflict."

The deadly nature of guns in the hands of children became all-too clear in the US last August when a nine-year-old girl killed a gun technician at an Arizona firing range with a submachine gun.

The girl's parents were filming as she fired several shots from an Uzi that recoiled and shot the instructor in the head.
