Egypt and EgyptAir crashes
FLIGHT INCIDENTS INVOLVING EGYPT & EGYPTAIR:
* March 2016 - An EgyptAir plane flying from Alexandria to Cairo is hijacked and forced to land in Cyprus by a man with what authorities say was a fake suicide belt. He's arrested after giving himself up and is described by Cypriot authorities as "psychologically unstable".
* October 31, 2015 - An Airbus A321 operated by Russia's Metrojet crashes in the Sinai, killing all 224 people on board. Russia and Western governments say the plane was probably brought down by a bomb, and the Islamic State militant group says it had smuggled an explosive device on board.
* May 2002 - An EgyptAir Boeing 737 crashes into a hill while on approach to Tunis-Carthage International Airport, killing 14 people.
* 1999 - EgyptAir Flight 990 crashes into the Atlantic near the Massachusetts island of Nantucket, killing all 217 people aboard. US investigators file a final report that concludes its co-pilot switched off the autopilot and pointed the Boeing 767 downwards. Egyptian officials reject the notion of suicide altogether, insisting some mechanical reason caused the crash.
