Incredible rescue after fighting jaguar and dog fall into well
A dog and a jaguar got a little more than they bargained for when they fell down a well while fighting in Mexico.
Remarkably the dog, named "Negrito", survived both the attack and the fall down the well, while the Jaguar was stunned into shock.
Authorities in Uvero, Quintana Roo, were alerted to the animals' plight in the early hours of the morning on December 4.

The well the animals fell down was narrow and about two metres deep. IFAW
A delicate rescue mission was launched to save the animals.
It was a joint operation between the Participatory Environmental Surveillance Committee, federal authorities (PROFEPA and CONANP), state authorities (IBANQROO), local organisation Aak Mahahual, and International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW).
While the jaguar was motionless through shock, community member quickly pulled Negrito to safety.

The dog was then taken to a local animal clinic where he was treated by IFAW vet Dr Erika Flores.
He is in a good condition and will remain at the clinic for a few days while he recovers.

A raft logs was constructed to cover the well. Authorities delicately placed a large stick down the hole.
Then from a distance they pulled the cover off, this allowed the jaguar to climb to safety.
The big cat was later released back into the jungle.

Victor Rosales, President and Founder of Aak Mahahual, praised the community for alerting authorities.
"What I appreciate the most is that even though people could have dealt with this situation by killing the jaguar, however, they preferred to respect this jaguar and give him a chance of life back in the wild," he said.
"The community called PROFEPA and me before hurting the jaguar. This is the result of the work that we have all done with the community."
