'Fireball' meteor breaks up over southern Japan

A suspected meteor flew across Japan's southern skies on Monday night with video capturing the dazzling decent before it disintegrated in the atmosphere.

People in the city of Fukouka on the southern island of Kyushu reported seeing the sparkling "fireball" meteor on Monday.

A camera at the Fukuoka airport recorded the incandescent object as it zoomed through the sky, emitting bursts of light as it fell apart.

Experts believe the fireball meteor likely broke apart in the sky and any remaining fragments would have fallen into the sea, the BBC reports.
