Woman hauled from train seconds with seconds to spare

A woman was only seconds from being hit an oncoming train when police officers saved her life.

Victoria Police officers were attempted to settle a disruptive group of commuters when they noticed a woman stumbling across the tracks of a Melbourne train station.

The Protective Service Officers said they saw a train bearing down on her and sprinted from the other end of the station.

Another man attempted to come to the woman's aid but could not pull her from the tracks.

The officers were able to haul her to safety with seconds to spare.

"It's the closest I've seen someone getting hit by a train," Constable Ben Mitchell said.

Constable Steven Goldman said the "incredibly dangerous" practice is surprisingly common and often commuters don't realise how risky crossing the tracks is.

"I don't think she realised the seriousness of what she had done and how close she had come to being killed on the day," Constable Steven Goldman added.

"She's very lucky to be alive… had we not been in the spot we were in would have been a very bad outcome on the day.

The officers involved have received commendations for their bravery but they insist they were just "doing their job".
