Mechanics' joyride caught on camera

Taking customer’s cars for joyrides is an accusation often levelled at mechanics - proving it is another thing altogether.

But a dashcam is all it took for a pair of mechanics in England to be caught out big time.

Motorist Wayne Clinning’s suspicions were raised when he picked up his Ford Focus ST from Lancashire’s Pye Motors in December and noticed half a tank of petrol had been used.

The 42-year-old, who had taken the car in for a service and new tyres, immediately checked his dashcam and found it contained some alarming footage.

First the mechanics are heard rifling through the contents of his car, before driving the car out of an industrial estate at 90km/h, well above the 50km/h speed limit.

As the mechanic hits a motorway the speed hits an eye-popping 191km/h in a 95km/h zone.

"They were just using and abusing my car, flooring it up and down the motorway. I bet this happens all the time and they keep getting away with it," Mr Clinning told the Metro Newspaper.

"They have violated my trust, joyridden my car and lied to me."

According to Mr Clinning a staff member who he showed the footage to said he was "absolutely mortified" and offered him a full $950 refund and two new tyres.

Pye Motors director Helen Morley-Pye confirmed the matter had been investigated and staff involved were subjected to disciplinary measures.
