Lady Thor to wield the hammer
Marvel Comics is replacing their traditional male version of Thor (as played by Chris Hemsworth onscreen) with a new female version. AAP
Actor Chris Hemsworth could face a more extreme makeover for his next outing as superhero Thor, with Marvel Comics passing the hammer to a new, female version of the thunder god.
The comics giant unveiled the female version of Thor today, with an announcement she will debut in her own magazine in October.
The character change is part of an overarching push by Marvel to boost its female readership.
"The inscription on Thor's hammer reads 'Whosoever holds this hammer, should He be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor," Marvel editor Wil Moss said.
"Well, it's time to change that inscription."
It is unlikely Hemsworth will be dropped from the role, with a Disney spokeswoman revealing the Marvel announcement only related to the Thor comics.
