A wrongly-accused Welsh man whose fingers were severed when police detained him has legally obtained the footage of the moment his digits were chopped off.

Jamie Clark, 28, was stripped naked and thrown into a jail cell after being accused of assaulting a police officer.

His fingers then became lodged in the cell door as it was slammed shut.

CCTV footage shows his agony as he spent 30 seconds desperately attempting to free his hand from the door and severing three of his fingers in the process.

"I was pepper sprayed, stripped naked and bundled into a cell by half a dozen officers," Mr Clark told Wales New Service.

"I went to get out but that’s when I felt this huge pain and felt my flesh being torn away when the door was shut."

"I was screaming in agony. I was begging the officers to open the door but no one helped me."

"I have never known fear and pain like it."

He was arrested in June after a neighbour phoned police while he was having a row with his girlfriend.

Mr Clark was later cleared of assaulting the police officer and obtained the CCTV footage as part of a legal challenge.

The father-of-one from Burry Port in Carmarthenshire has now filed a complaint with the Independent Police Complaints Commission and is suing police for the loss of his fingers.
